History & Architecture

The Pearlman Cabin, completed in 1957, is a testament to John Lautner's organic modernist approach. Commissioned by Dr. Carl Kenneth and Agnes Branch Pearlman, the cabin was designed as a retreat that harmoniously blends with its natural surroundings in Idyllwild, California.

Lautner's design incorporates local materials such as wood and stone, creating a structure that seems to grow from the landscape. The cabin's most striking feature is its dramatic sloping roof, which mirrors the angle of the surrounding tree canopy and allows snow to slide off easily.
